A Great Day for Freedom

That was my mother's comment about the recent Heller decision issued by the Supreme Court.  I couldn't agree more.  The ruling decisively establishes in law what ceased to be a serious debate among constitution scholars years ago: that the second amendment refers to an individual right, not a collective right.

The ruling strikes down Washington, DC's ban, which prohibited handgun ownership and required that long guns be locked or disassembled.  The ban did not even allow for long guns to be unlocked to defend against an imminent threat.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  There is no more basic human right than the right to self defense and that right does not stop at your front door, the school yard or the state line.
