The Brady Campaign’s Surprise Admission
Here is a link to a video of Wayne La Pierre (of the NRA) and Paul Helmke (of the Brady Campaign) on Hardball with Chris Matthews. This would best be described as a resounding win for Wayne. Hat tip to Ahab by way of Sebastian.
There is something rather substantial in the debate that I think is worth highlighting. It comes about halfway through the 15 minute clip. This is what Paul Helmke had to say in the context of where the line will now be drawn on restrictions post-Heller.
"Right to carry states are 48 of the 50 states right now…If there are clear restrictions on people [felons and the mentally ill] and to make sure that they know what they're doing with the gun, that they pass the background checks, that the local police have signed off on it, that's something that doesn't cause that many problems." [emphasis added]
Read that last bit again. The president of the Brady Campaign (formerly Handgun Control, Inc.) just admitted that concealed carry is not a problem. I'd say that is a pretty spectacular statement even with all the qualifiers he tossed in.
