May This Not Be Our Lament

I only wish I had a gun rather than a camera.
The words of a photographer who witnessed some of the carnage in Mumabai, where terrorists murdered 174 people.  His government ensured he only had a camera.
This is a good time to remember that there are a lot of people here who want us to only [...]

Self-defense Shooting in DE

Delaware is not a particularly gun friendly state, though much better than neighboring NJ, but a law abiding gun owner did manage to defend himself.  This is the second case recently where not only did a gun owner defend himself but he did so while carrying concealed.  In both cases being able to carry concealed was [...]

Updated Body Count

Several updates to the Body Count:

Raised death toll to 174 in November 26 Mumbai attacks.
Added 8 deaths from classes with militants in northwest Pakistan on November 26.
Added 300 deaths from riots in Nigeria reported on November 30.

Letter to the Editor

I sent the following letter in response to this commentary in the Inquirer.
To the editor,
Chris Satullo’s piece attempting to pass off Bryan Miller of Ceasefire New Jersey as a moderate was off base.  Miller claims that “all we’re about is preventing gun violence” yet all he ever talks or writes about is further violating our civil [...]

Happy Thanksgiving

What can I give thanks for?  To list just a few…

the privilege of living in the most prosperous country on the planet
our defenders of freedom in uniform
the gifts of faith and God’s mercy
the friendship of an elegant and beautiful wife
the miracle of a baby girl

Body Count Updated

Terrorists kill 78 in Mumbai.  Body Count updated.

The Leftwing Hate Continues

Since the passage of Proposition 8 in California, a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman, there has been an outpouring of leftwing hate.  One of the primary targets has been the Mormon church.  A few examples:

A copy of the Book of Mormon was set on fire and left at a [...]

It Won’t Stop There

The Brits are phasing in a plan to require non-EU foreigners to carry identity cards with them.  While I support enforcement of immigration laws here and abroad, this is way beyond what people should feel comfortable with.
In fact, I see no reason to think it will stop there.  Once it is fully implemented for foreigners [...]

Gun Free Killing Zones

Here is a surprisingly honest news report on the reality of gun free school zones.  Mark your calendar.  You won’t see this often.  And remember: when seconds count the police are just minutes away.

Obama’s Nominee for AG

Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder, was involved in the midnight raid that sent Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba. Afterwards Holder said Gonzalez “was not taken at the point of a gun” and that the federal agents behaved “very sensitively”.
Oh, really? Remember this photo?

By the way, isn’t sending someone back to another country also [...]

Elect a Prez, Lose Your Shirt

In the 12 trading days since Obama was elected the Dow has lost over 21%, the NASDAQ has lost 26% and the S&P 500 has lost 25%.  This is what happens when you elect someone who in a very bad economy pledges to:

raise business taxes
raise capital gains taxes
raise taxes on the wealthy
raise protectionist barriers
implement card [...]

Insults From the Cave

Ayman al-Zawahri, Al-Qaeda’s second in command, just released a video in which he refers to Obama as a “house negro”.  If there is any possible way to make Obama popular with conservatives, al-Zawahri might just have found it.  That’s alright Ayman, why don’t you step out of that cave for a sec?  We’ve got something for [...]

Their Awesome Capacity

From today’s WSJ:
Prepare to witness, then, the awesome capacity of an unreformed Detroit to consume taxpayer billions with nothing to show for it.
It’s a great line but I think it can be improved on:
Prepare to witness, then, the awesome capacity of an unreformed Detroit Democratic Congress to consume taxpayer billions with nothing to show for [...]

Of Barbers and Bullets

A law-abiding gun owner who runs a barber shop recently shot and killed a robber in Philadelphia.  I there are a couple things worth noting because they depart markedly from the anti-gunners narrative about guns.
First, the shop owner had the gun on his person.  If he wasn’t carrying the gun, it seems unlikely that he would have been [...]

Of Lefties and Blacklists

One of the left’s key complaints about ”McCarthyism” was the resulting blacklists.  Hollywood lefties still idolize the unapologetic communists the ended up on these informal lists.   So why, then, do they support blacklists for supporters of causes they don’t like?

More “Tolerance”

Another high minded example of what the left means by tolerance: shut up and go home.

Tolerance, That One Way Street

A remarkably brave 8th grade girl performed an experiment recently.  She wore a pro-McCain shirt to her overwhelmingly pro-Obama school and took notes on what happened.  Then she did the reverse the next day with a pro-Obama shirt.
Not surprisingly the self-proclaimed tolerant lefties hurled all kinds of hate her way.  Some of the highlights included [...]

City of Philadelphia vs Freedom

Thne NRA and the City of Philadelphia are fighting in court over Philadelphia’s new (anti) gun laws.  Pennsylvania has a preemption law, which basically makes gun laws a state issue rather than a local issue.  There are plenty of people who support gun control who have said the city has no leg to stand on [...]

Words to Fear

Alexander Aleinikoff, Dean of Georgetown School of Law:
Development and strengthening of other political institutions – regional, transnational, some global…exercising what will be perceived as legitimate legal and coercive authority…That is, a decline in citizenship in the nation-state is likely to be accompanied by new kinds of citizenships associated with ‘polities’ that tax and spend, organize [...]
