A Simple Proposal on Government
After watching Harry Reid and his band of Merry Dems push through the 1,000 page, $800 Billion stimulus bill within 24 hours of its finalization I have a simple proposal:
Require that no legislation be brought to a floor vote until the final bill has been read by at least one member from each committee that worked on it plus one other Congressman not on the committees. The Congressmen would each have to sign an affidavit confirming that they did so. By signing the affidavit they would be subject to federal perjury charges if they were proven to have not actually read the bill.
It is safe to say that no one in Congress has read the whole bill, which I find highly offensive. If we managed to get a law like that in place, just imagine how much smaller and simpler the bills coming out of Congress would be.
Is it really asking so much to expect that a couple people in Congress actually read the laws they pass?
