Better Than No Health Care?

I recently posted the following response to someone on a social networking site who said about government run health care that it was better than no health care at all.  It ends rather abruptly because of a character limit.

But of course government health care IS no health care if you develop a potentially fatal condition (breast and colon cancer) in a country where screenings are inadequate (England). Or you have an aggressive cancer where the one-size-fits-all government board decided to only pay for the cheaper drugs that are not effective in treating your cancer (England).

Or you live in a country where you may have insurance but you can’t actually get an appointment because there aren’t enough doctors (Canada and England). Remember there is a huge difference between having insurance and actually having care. Canada and England have higher rates of insurance but lower rates of health care access than the U.S..

Medicine in places like Canada and England is not just like it is here only with everyone insured. There are fewer doctors, fewer diagnostic tools, fewer medicines, fewer surgeries and fewer treatments available. And they have predictable lower survival rates for treatable diseases.
