The Virtues of Being Less Wrong
As readers of this blog may be aware, I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat. When push comes to shove, however, I am more likely to hold my nose and vote GOP because they are generally less wrong (not exactly a ringing endorsement to be sure). But it’s safe to say I’m no GOP fanboy.
With that in mind, I’ll note something that took me by surprise. It seems that a Yale economist named Ray Fair come up with an interesting observation about state voting patterns in Presidential elections since the 1980s.
The states that voted Democrat in each election have the highest current unemployment rates. The states that voted Republican each time have the lowest current unemployment rates. For states with a mixed record, the more often a state voted Democrat the higher its unemployment rate relative to the states that more often voted Republican.
I guess that shows us how important it can be to merely be less wrong.
Philly has been run exclusively by Dems for over 60 years. Look how great we’re doing! /sarc
