Acting Stupidly

That the president should have said northing at all about the arrest of Henry Lewis Gates, Jr is pretty clear.  But having decided to weigh in on it, his choice of words was instructive.  He said Cambridge police “acted stupidly”.

Notice he didn’t say they acted rashly or even unlawfully.  Neither would be true but at least a rational, if incorrect, argument could be make for those.  Instead the President decided to say they acted “stupidly”, even while admitting he didn’t have all the facts.

This is so typical of the left.  They all-too-rarely engage the ideas of people they disagree with.  Read the letters to the editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer.  Or read NY Times columnists like Frank Rich.  It is simply standard practice for the left to slander and engage in ad hominem attacks rather than use reasoned arguments.

This afternoon the President apparently tried to make nice to the Cambridge police.  He said his words could have “calibrated those words differently”.  Calibrated differently?  Outside of the media, is anyone going to buy that?
