Lefty Friendly Fire
One of the things I find so irritating about the leftward lean of the media is that they refuse to admit it. So I always enjoy friendly fire incidents where lefties admit the media is on their side.
As it happens, one of my coworkers (a confirmed lefty) provided just such a moment recently. We had exchanged recommendations for good iPhone apps and he followed up by email with a couple more. One of his tips was for an NPR app with the following warning:
“Depending on your political affiliation you may have no desire for this app.”
The idea that political affiliation would be the determinant for interest in a theoretically neutral news source pretty much says it all. I will even admit to be a recovering NPR junkie. I stuck with them for a long time because they provided a depth and breadth of coverage not available elsewhere. But their bias and outright advocacy was so outrageous during the presidential primaries and general election that they lost me permanently.
