Manly Men

The Wall Street Journal recently noted a study that observed that women who are more financially secure and live in safe locations tend not to seek manly men as mates.    This is entirely consistent with my contention that people who support the post-masculine, metrosexual approach to life fail to notice they are standing on the safe side of a line being held by the unabashedly manly (the police, the fire fighters, the military).

When civilized society breaks down in the U.S. (and, yes, it does happen sometimes), who do people look to for help?  When Katrina hit New Orleans, did people call out for help from the well manicured and nicely coiffed?  On 9/11 were the heroes of the day the opinion writers at the NY Times or the Todd Beamers of the country?  If thugs break into your home will they be deterred from violence by your sensitive sympathies or by the unmistakable sound of a shotgun being readied for battle?

Enough with the girly men!  There’s a difference between being tough and being callous.  There’s a difference between not being a slob and being a manicured wuss.  It’s not that fine a line, frankly.  Be a man, men.

  1. Just stumbled across your blog while digging into ‘American Manifesto’ as a possible title for a project I’m working on — love the blog, and the ‘manly men’ post was nicely done. Keep up the work. I’ll be back, even if I’m not the governor of California.
